Why We love WUKA!
This week on socials we are discussing period pants. For me it's not understatement to say for a week a month they have changed my life. On the blog this week I wanted to share a little bit more about a specific product WUKA have manufactured to tell you a little bit more about what the what and the why.
In 2020 (yes you remember that year, RIGHT?!) there were was global chaos. But it was also a year when we saw kindness, community and humans coming together to support one another like I haven’t seen before in my lifetime. Below is the story of how the WUKAs Earth Day pants came to be, I hope you enjoy.
FAST FASHION TO REUSABLE PERIOD PANTS
Our story: In 2020, our neighbouring factory needed help to save both the jobs of their workers and their fabrics that would have gone to landfill if they shut down, after several orders were cancelled due to the pandemic.
Although the type of fabric was not what we would normally use, we realised if they weren't going to be repurposed, the fabric would go straight to landfill and contribute to even more waste that our planet is suffering from.
So we made 22,000 pairs of period pants from the factory's fabric. Thereby, safeguarding the future of the factory and saving hundreds of jobs.
We donated 2000 to Days For Girls International’, a non-profit organisation, and over 800 to the NHS.
